Going Postal is the first part of a trilogy about a con artist Moist von Lipwig, the most likeable literary criminal.
One day, the ruler of the largest city on Discworld decides that the local post office needs reviving and tasks mr. Lipwig with that task. From there, the book takes you on a rollercoaster ride, every page filled with unanticipated action, Pratchett’s humour, and crimes that somehow turn out to be moral.
I read somewhere on the Internet that you should start the whole Discworld series with this novel because it best showcases Pratchett’s skill. They might be right. I recommend starting with either this book or Guards! Guards!
When you finish reading this book, you can go ahead and pick up the next book in the series, Making Money
